A few months back on my class' WhatsApp group a picture was posted and it had in it two United States politicians sitting at a table against themselves and a lil write up was added to the photo, it was a question, what was aked was what do you see in this photo that Nigerian politicians don't have and the reply from somebody was "A flat tummy". Hilarious isn't it? Yes, it was actually made for laughs and trust me we all had our fair share of the rib cracking cake.
After having a good laugh it got dawned on me that this was serious and an Issue that needed to be talked on and taken seriously. I'm reminded of something I read somewhere, or was it looking at a picture on someone's phone, where it was written that in developed countries the educated or wealthy when seen through physical appearance are the non-fat, but fit ones and the uneducated or poor ones are the ones to let themselves go and take solace in obesity. While in underdeveloped countries its the reverse, the educated or wealthy ones are the ones who let themselves go and jump into obesity's warm but harsh embrace and not just for themselves, but their children as well, a symbol or evidence of good living to them obviously. While the uneducated or the poor are the ones with the non fat appearance why? probably because they have no money for the kind of diet the so called wealthy have, but ironically just good enough for the body.
I remember walking down the road and seeing a labourer (or laybuke as they're fondly called here) working one afternoon and I thought to myself "Damn what I wouldn't do for that kind of body..." he was looking so fit and well built not necessarily because he works out, but mainly cos of his hand work, but his job isn't the main bone of contention here (forgive my digression), back to the point It is so very clear that if it comes down to lifespan he obviously would live longer than the so called rich politician cos of the politicians vast TG wealth, so much in the adipose bank cos he doesn't withdraw from it at all. We all know the detrimental effects of having excess TG's stored in adipose tissues without mobilisation of fatty acids form the stores for energy use, cardiovascular clogging, artherioscelrosis, effects of which we know can be fatal, death lying In wait...but all this can be avoided by the right lifestyle, exercising regularly and eating right.
Facing facts we in this part of the world are so hardworking towards gaining wealth and more of it, but extremely lazy towards our health and our bodies. The bible makes us understand and regard our bodies as the temple of the Lord and I can recall vividly when Solomon was building a temple for the Lord he designed it so beautifully that it was more than an envy, but how do we treat our temples today, without care throwing almost anything and everything detrimental into it just because we have the means and the need to show that we have been eating well and large.
In addition to the health benefits let's talk about aesthetics, I saw a post that no African girl/lady would abandon six cars for six packs, so leave the gym and work hard, but I beg to differ. I say no African lady would abandon six cars and six packs for just six cars and an amusement park so my dear people work out and work hard. Tell me who wouldn't want to have an amazing, great looking, heavenly body all the more better with the solid backing of cash. I know i would, a Bruce Wayne in the flesh.
It's time we start facing our bodies and watching what we throw inside it and stop with the spoiling. The awareness has come to us and I'm happy to see most people making good use of information that has gotten to them about their health, but more word still needs to go out, apart from the health benefits the aesthetic aspect is still there to gain from too. Hit the gym exercise regularly and keep yourself clean from the inside out. I still look at my father today and damn that man is threshold level and I cannot say I have attained action potential if I don't at least get to his level and beat it. Beautify yourself physically beyond the make up, WORK HARD & WORK OUT
